Summary

Two years ago, on a trip to Seattle to visit her brother Aidan, fifteen-year-old Scarlett vanished into thin air。 After years of false leads and dead ends, Aidan has almost given up hope。 But then a woman sees a girl running for her life across a forest clearing in Northern California。 She is convinced the girl is the missing Scarlett。 But could it really be her?

Heading south, Aidan finds a fire-ravaged town covered in missing-teenager posters。 The locals seem afraid, the sheriff won’t answer any questions and it looks like another dead end – until a chance meeting with returned local Lana gives Aidan his first clue。 But as they piece together what happened, Lana and Aidan make deadly enemies。 Enemies willing to do anything to silence them - and to protect the terrible truth about what is really going on in the forest。。。

Loved most of Mark Edwards books but this wasn’t for me。 Reasonable start but it lost my interest after that。

This is a good read but not quite as gripping as previous books by this author。 We follow Aidan in his search for his teenage sister and it’s soon clear the group she’s with don’t want to be found。 Lana is looking for her brother too so the two of them form a plan to find their siblings。

No Place to Run is a novel that stands alone, written by Mark Edwards。 A young girl, fifteen-year-old Scarlett, the sister of Aidan Faith, went missing two years ago in Seattle and is seen being chased by a man in a woodland clearing by a passenger on a train。 Is it Scarlett?A great atmospheric setting and a few twists contributed to my enjoyment of this novel。 It will keep you pondering what might happen next。 An action-packed, compelling domestic thriller, it's well worth picking up。I received No Place to Run is a novel that stands alone, written by Mark Edwards。 A young girl, fifteen-year-old Scarlett, the sister of Aidan Faith, went missing two years ago in Seattle and is seen being chased by a man in a woodland clearing by a passenger on a train。 Is it Scarlett?A great atmospheric setting and a few twists contributed to my enjoyment of this novel。 It will keep you pondering what might happen next。 An action-packed, compelling domestic thriller, it's well worth picking up。I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Amazon Publishing UK via NetGalley。 This review is my own unbiased opinion。 。。。more

Not One of His Better Stories。。。No spoilers。 3 stars。 In my previous reviews of novels by this author I've said that you can't go wrong choosing one of his books。。。This story is an exception to that rule。。。British ex-pat Aidan is desperately searching for his missing sister Scarlett lost on his watch while she visited in the US。。。The only clue to her disappearance came from a 75 year old woman, Francesca, who saw Scarlett apparently being chased by a man through a field。。。。。。 this Francesca saw Not One of His Better Stories。。。No spoilers。 3 stars。 In my previous reviews of novels by this author I've said that you can't go wrong choosing one of his books。。。This story is an exception to that rule。。。British ex-pat Aidan is desperately searching for his missing sister Scarlett lost on his watch while she visited in the US。。。The only clue to her disappearance came from a 75 year old woman, Francesca, who saw Scarlett apparently being chased by a man through a field。。。。。。 this Francesca saw through a window from her train car。 The man was close on Scarlett's heels and at one point Scarlett made eye contact with Francesca。。。This haunted Francesca so she reported what she had seen to authorities and word got round to Aidan。。。Meanwhile。。。Lana, a local teen, is also searching for her brother Samuel thought to have perished in one of California's wildfires。。。But。。。Lana strongly believes that Samuel is alive and something nefarious has happened to him。。。Eventually。。。Aidan and Lana team up in the search for their loved ones and are about to meet up with a fringe society of tree huggers with an end-times mentality。。。。。。 and their feminist leaderWell, as I said, this was not Mark Edwards' shining literary moment。 There are much better novels out there by him but I would not recommend this story as one of them。 。。。more

Gripping。From start to finish this book grand you and hold on。 Children, teens go missing every day。 But what happens to those left to wonder? One brother spends two years searching for his missing sister until by chance a local woman glimpses her from a train。。。

I have always enjoyed Mark Edwards' books and couldn’t resist getting this one despite my current issues with my extra slow reading。  This was different from the usual reads by the author though。 I have come to expect creepy, captivating, atmospheric stories from him but this leaned more towards action。The story begins with a lot of suspense that immediately drew me in。 An old woman is on a train going through a forest when she sees a young woman being chased。 What is even more shocking is that I have always enjoyed Mark Edwards' books and couldn’t resist getting this one despite my current issues with my extra slow reading。  This was different from the usual reads by the author though。 I have come to expect creepy, captivating, atmospheric stories from him but this leaned more towards action。The story begins with a lot of suspense that immediately drew me in。 An old woman is on a train going through a forest when she sees a young woman being chased。 What is even more shocking is that she recognizes the woman who is a familiar face from a missing persons poster。After the suspense of the first chapters, the story however takes a turn that I wasn’t expecting and wasn’t really a fan of as I don’t really like action-packed reads and this one had quite a number of guns going off。 If you don’t mind a bit of action, then you’ll certainly enjoy this book。 It had quite a number of twists and as always, Mark’s writing is fantastic。 。。。more

Disappointing finale and a tortuous build up。 All the nasties get killed, nearly all of them men while the main protagonist who was responsible for so many deaths does a deal。 I prefer realism, society seeking revenge instead we have the evil females escaping to wreak future havoc but their male counterparts perishing in gruesomeChauvinistic episodes, no reality just pandering to popular culture。 Possibly I expected too much hence my disappointment becomes justified。

To start, I am a HUGE Mark Edwards fan。。。Loved "Follow You Home", "The Magpies"。。。never disappointed until now。 This book was missing the signature creepiness, the characters weren't likeable, and it was kind of boring。 He lost me about a third of the way in but I finished it。 If this is your first Mark Edwards book, please read his previous books。 I'll look forward to his next release! Aiden is eager to find out and teams up with another relative, Lana, of a missing person。 Together they embark on following every lead down until the leads start to follow them。Now this story does have a lot to do with climate change and extreme cult followings。 I didn’t take the information on face value… this is a story and we’re following a mad cult leader here。 So just go in knowing you’re going to get some crazy stories and remember this is a work of fiction。 Will M。 Watt was an enjoyable narrator。 His accents were pleasing to my ears。 He was able to carry multiple POVs without it being confusing or unpleasant。Thank you Brilliance Publishing for the complimentary copy of this audiobook with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion。 I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that。。。 my opinions。Check out my Blog: Next Book ReviewCheck out my Facebook Page: Next Book Review Facebook 。。。more

HOLY MOLY WHAT AN AMAZING READ。 This has everything I want in a thriller book -multiple POVs, connecting characters, mind boggling plot, and a twist that you never see coming。 This is easily in my top 5 reads of the year so far。 If you’re looking for a good thriller to sink your teeth into then look no further than this book。 TW: human trafficking, abduction, abuse, cults, brothels。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Always excited to read a Mark Edwards book! This one reminded me a bit 2 of his prior books, Follow You home and What You Wish For, just with the “adventure” format。 That is, the main character is almost on a hunt to figure out the mystery。 Would have liked more twists (personally, I thought it would have been so good if the cult leader - Shannon - was actually Scarlett, Aiden’s sister!!), but still a very engaging read。

Hoping for a sequel This book has it all…family bonds, love, murder, mystery, and extremely likable characters。 I found myself rooting for Aiden and crying with Lana。 You won’t be able to put this down。 Please write a sequel Mark。 We’ll all be anxiously awaiting it。

One talented dudeAnother fantastic story from Mark Edwards。 Full of twists and turns。 Every time I thought I had it figured out, something would happen to change the direction of the story。 The characters are so well written, they have personality and depth。 I love that while the book is such a gripping thriller, dealing with shocking subjects, Edward's is able to weave humour in through his characters。 I loved every page and I can't wait to see what Mark has in store for us next。 One talented dudeAnother fantastic story from Mark Edwards。 Full of twists and turns。 Every time I thought I had it figured out, something would happen to change the direction of the story。 The characters are so well written, they have personality and depth。 I love that while the book is such a gripping thriller, dealing with shocking subjects, Edward's is able to weave humour in through his characters。 I loved every page and I can't wait to see what Mark has in store for us next。 。。。more

GOODREADS GIVEAWAY WINNER - Thank you, Kindle。 This story would make a suspenseful film。 It would contain violence which would be hard for me to watch。 The author brings to light the possibility of modern-day cults and the danger they could pose。 Edwards did not whitewash the evil that could result from such a situation。 Lana and Aidan made a good team。 It was a quick and engaging read。

Let's start by saying that I have read every book Mark has written and have consistently rated them five stars, but this book just left me flat。 Shannon is not a sympathetic character, and her twisted behaviors aren't justified。 The topic of protecting the ecology is commendable, but the radical approaches didn't evoke the feelings needed。 The ending was not satisfying; given that young adults can be brainwashed, the ending scene with Scarlett is uncomfortable。 Where's the hint to what she needs Let's start by saying that I have read every book Mark has written and have consistently rated them five stars, but this book just left me flat。 Shannon is not a sympathetic character, and her twisted behaviors aren't justified。 The topic of protecting the ecology is commendable, but the radical approaches didn't evoke the feelings needed。 The ending was not satisfying; given that young adults can be brainwashed, the ending scene with Scarlett is uncomfortable。 Where's the hint to what she needs to become whole again? If there is a follow-up book with these characters, I would have to think twice before I read it, which pains me to say, since prior to his last two books, I really was a superfan! 。。。more

I always eagerly await a Mark Edwards novel, but unfortunately, for me this fell way below the level of what I've come to expect from Mark。I found Aidan annoying and Shannon quite an unbelievable character。 It was very run of the mill and not gripping and I had to keep reminding myself it was a Mark Edwards novel and not an author I hadn't heard of。 Missed the psychological creepy thriller。 I always eagerly await a Mark Edwards novel, but unfortunately, for me this fell way below the level of what I've come to expect from Mark。I found Aidan annoying and Shannon quite an unbelievable character。 It was very run of the mill and not gripping and I had to keep reminding myself it was a Mark Edwards novel and not an author I hadn't heard of。 Missed the psychological creepy thriller。 。。。more
